Top Tips for mindfulness and wellbeing

The 10th October 2019 marks World Mental Health Day, so what better way to see its arrival than to share some top tips for mindfulness and wellbeing.

Stock up on sleep

Sleep triggers the release of certain chemicals that are important for managing our moods and emotions. If we don’t get enough sleep it can often lead to the beginning of depression and anxiousness.

Eat well and stay healthy

Eating well isn't just important for our bodies, but it's also important for our minds. Certain mineral deficiencies (namely iron and B12), can give us a low mood, which is why it’s a key reason to needing a balanced diet.

Caffeine is worth avoiding if you’re feeling anxious as sometimes this can often trigger you to become worse.

Exercise comes hand in hand with eating. It’s proven to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Manage stress

Often, stress can’t always be avoided, but being in control of what could trigger it is and knowing how to cope with it plays a part in maintaining good mental health.

Keep a list of your worries and see if you can identify any common areas that are contributing to your stresses. This will help to control your stresses in the future.

Don’t lose sleep by overthinking and stressing about certain things. Write them down and deal with them in the morning. The lack of sleep isn’t going to help you overcome your stresses.

Socialise!

Having a solid circle of friends is key as it means you have a trusted circle of people to speak to. Investing time into building relationships can lead to great benefits for everyone involved.

Having friends is important not just for your self-esteem, but also for providing support when you're not feeling too great.

Everyone goes through ups and downs with their feelings and emotions, so share your troubles.

The key to positive mental health is to recognise when you’re not feeling good and ask for help! Don’t be ashamed if you’re feeling low or stressed!

Help others

Helping others isn’t just positive for the people you’re helping, it’s great for you too.

It can give you a real self-esteem boost meaning you feel good and feel like you have a real meaning. This is key to your mental health!

Helping others can be anything from volunteering at a charity or even just helping out a neighbour.

Do something you enjoy

Make time for the things you really enjoy. That could be going for a walk, watching your favourite TV show, getting crafty or reading that new book.

If you don’t spend some time doing your own thing, it could result in you becoming irritable and unhappy.
